GEMS: We aim to serve the more elderly folks in our community. The Gems Day Centre now meets in the church hall each Thursday and caters for between 40 and 50 . On this day chairobics, indoor bowls, homemade lunch, a nearly-new stall, bric-a-brac and a cell group are on offer!
On Tuesdays the Gems bus run takes people to the local supermarket to help them with their weekly shop. This has proved so popular that we now do 3 trips a week. The Gems walking group encourages the fitter members to get out and about in the lovely countryside around Bradford. We also provide Peripatetic services such as home visits, hospital visiting, shopping for the housebound, bereavement counselling, liaison with families and social workers and, of course, prayer.
YOUTH BASE : E:merge
IIt all began with a team of voluntary youth workers responding to need in the area meeting young people on the streets of East Bowling, starting in September 1992. In May 1993 we successfully got the finances to buy and re-furbish the premises that we now occupy: the renovations were completed and we built upon our Detached / Street Work from September 1994. We have developed work within secondary schools and especially work with Bradford Academy.
E:merge: Initially worked out of The Vine on Parsonage Road in Laisterdyke with St Mary's church but became independent in 2006 and joined forces with Youth Base in 2007. The E:merge Trust is now merging with Olive Branch Trust so this joint working is operating at all levels.
